“You will never do a new thing with God with your eyes looking back on the past.” Ian Allen

So often with God when we are in a place of need we go back to the places, activities or even attitudes where we had the strongest encounters meetings in the past. While there is some benefit to doing there is also a danger of being too focused on the method instead of the person. This week Ian Allen looks at the human tendency to default to the ruts in our spiritual walks and not going to the new thing God is leading us into.

June 25: The Fullness of The Heart

What is The Language of Faith?

This week Ian Allen looks at the question if , as Jesus said “Out of the heart the mouth speaks”then what is the language of faith? We tend to talk from our worldview so from our speech what is our view?

Included in this weeks teaching was a video from The Bible Project on 1 Corinthians (Follow the link to check it out) showing how the viewpoint of the Corinthian church may not have been in line with how God saw them. The behaviour and outcomes of their lives showed what was in their hearts.

As always, prepare to be challenged and don’t forget to share.

June 18: Jesus be the Centre

This week Susan Essex points out the church vision that states:

“We are a family church in the heart of the mountains reaching our community and the world with fresh hope and healing.”

Who is? Me?

We are called to love others and that love is a gift –  not a reward. It doesn’t matter if it is deserved, we give anyway. This is the calling on our lives, our mission. Don’t run from your life and the mission. Run to Jesus who has promised to give you all you need for the vision and purpose He has set before you.

Success with God always means that you choose to do things God’s way, not your own way.

So, who’s life is it anyway? Where is your centre?

Bring the best robe and put it on him. Put a ring on his finger and sandals on his feet. Bring the fattened calf and kill it. Let’s have a feast and celebrate. For this son of mine was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.’ So they began to celebrate.”
Luke 15:21-Luke 15:24 NIV

What would have happened if the son had only put on the robe? This week Ps. Ian Allen shares on what happens when we consider Christianity about being saved from judgement and nothing more. May 21: What Shame Does

When we think of our moral and character flaws we often put them under being “Only Human”. The one term we avoid is calling it is what the Bible calls it: sin. The word ‘sin’ means falling short of the mark and the mark is God.

This awareness can have one of two effects on us: guilt or shame. One is life, the other is death. Guilt, a conviction of the Holy Spirit, leads to repentance. Shame leads to isolation and hiding. In this week’s sermon, Ian Allen looks at the effect of both of these responses and how to find God in the dark after effect of falling.
