Sept 3: Effective Sharing of Your Faith

What if sharing your faith meant more than words? What if it was more than doctrine but actually carried the actual presence of God? This week Ian Allen looks at sharing your faith in a way that carries God’s presence and not just His words.

and I pray that the sharing of your faith may become effective for the full knowledge of every good thing that is in us for the sake of Christ. (Phil 1:6 ESV)

Aug 20: The God who leads you

This is what the Lord says—
your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel:
“I am the Lord your God,
who teaches you what is best for you,
who directs you in the way you should go. (Isaiah 48:17 NIV)

How often do we wait on God and when we hear what He wants, we jump ahead without Him. We do this because we believe Christianity is about doing what God wants when it’s really about walking with Him. Listen as this week Ian Allen shares on our need to be “Followers of Jesus” not workers. We are to go where He’s going, nothing else.

Aug 8: Seeds of Hope

At least there is hope for a tree:
If it is cut down, it will sprout again,
and its new shoots will not fail.
Its roots may grow old in the ground
and its stump die in the soil,
yet at the scent of water it will bud
and put forth shoots like a plant. (Job 14:8,9 NIV)

No matter how barren and lifeless life can seem, at the scent of water life can grow. Susan Essex shares a raw and real message that everyone knows the times of despair when even prayer is painful but all can find hope again.

July 23: Dealing With The Monster

This week Francis Lane spoke briefly about the hidden sins we keep inside due to shame.  The parts of us we keep in shadows and how it can seriously damage our connection with God and each other. He includes references to two songs from Skillet, I have included the words from the second song below.

FORGIVEN (Skillet)

Forgive me now cause I
Have been unfaithful
Don’t ask me why cause I don’t know

So many times I’ve tried
But was unable
This heart belongs to you alone

Now I’m in our secret place
Alone in your embrace
Where all my wrongs have been erased
You have forgiven

All the promises and lies
All the times I compromise
All the times you were denied
You have forgiven

Forgive me I’m ashamed
I’ve loved another
I can’t explain cause I don’t know
No one can take your place
And there is no other
Forever yours and yours alone

Take me to our secret place
(We’ll leave the world away)
I get down on my knees
Feel your love wash over me
There will never be another
You’re the only one forever
And you know I’m yours alone

(Forgiven: Skillet. Lyrics from Google Play Music)

July 9: New Spaces With God

“You will never do a new thing with God with your eyes looking back on the past.” Ian Allen

So often with God when we are in a place of need we go back to the places, activities or even attitudes where we had the strongest encounters meetings in the past. While there is some benefit to doing there is also a danger of being too focused on the method instead of the person. This week Ian Allen looks at the human tendency to default to the ruts in our spiritual walks and not going to the new thing God is leading us into.

Starting from Matthew 14:22-33 Ian Allen looks at Jesus invitation to get out of the boat and go where He is. How He calls us into places where our faith is grown and we learn to rely on Him more. Like Peter He takes us into new experiences and to places where we need to keep our eyes on Him.

As this message challenges faith share it so others can grow too.

June 25: The Fullness of The Heart

What is The Language of Faith?

This week Ian Allen looks at the question if , as Jesus said “Out of the heart the mouth speaks”then what is the language of faith? We tend to talk from our worldview so from our speech what is our view?

Included in this weeks teaching was a video from The Bible Project on 1 Corinthians (Follow the link to check it out) showing how the viewpoint of the Corinthian church may not have been in line with how God saw them. The behaviour and outcomes of their lives showed what was in their hearts.

As always, prepare to be challenged and don’t forget to share.

June 18: Jesus be the Centre

This week Susan Essex points out the church vision that states:

“We are a family church in the heart of the mountains reaching our community and the world with fresh hope and healing.”

Who is? Me?

We are called to love others and that love is a gift –  not a reward. It doesn’t matter if it is deserved, we give anyway. This is the calling on our lives, our mission. Don’t run from your life and the mission. Run to Jesus who has promised to give you all you need for the vision and purpose He has set before you.

Success with God always means that you choose to do things God’s way, not your own way.

So, who’s life is it anyway? Where is your centre?
